Kantai Collection, often shortened to KanColle, is a web-based, free-to-play game from Japan. Developed by Kadokawa Games, the game features warships from World War II, each personified as teenage girls and young adult women. Each character's personality attributes reflect the history of the ship they represent. The game encompasses various aspects of naval warfare, such as combat, maintenance, repair, upgrading, resupply, morale, logistics, and mission planning. Since its launch in 2013, the game has grown into a larger media franchise, spawning multiple manga series, light novels, a tabletop role-playing game, a PlayStation Vita game, an anime television series, and an animated film.
